What is it?
Elderberry Syrup has been made for many generations and is used as an herbal treatment for various ailments. It is known for its immunity boosting properties, is high in antioxidants, and is tasty both alone and when mixed in a smoothie. It is chock-full of Vitamins A and C, flavonoids, and anthocyanins. We have been making Elderberry Syrup at The Juice Cafe and are noticing the health benefits ourselves.
What have we noticed?
It seems to loosen congestion and curb the length of the flu or a common cold. Since taking Elderberry Syrup, I have not gotten the various illnesses that are passed around, and my allergy symptoms seem to not be as extreme. They are actually tolerable in a high pollen area such as Southeast Missouri.
I have been taking it nightly with a mixture of almond butter, protein powder and elderberry syrup. It actually tastes like a delicious dessert. I seem to sleep more deeply through the night, perhaps because of its herbal properties. It has been a delicious and healthy addition to my diet.
Is it for Everyone?
Adults can take a tablespoonful a day. It is recommended that children take one teaspoon a day up to 10 days as needed to combat the flu. Many people take a spoonful when they begin to feel symptoms of flu or cold. Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding are cautioned about the use of Elderberries because there have not been enough studies to definitively prove its safety.
It is an herb, so you may want to speak with your doctor before using it. If you have an autoimmune disorder such as multiple sclerosis, lupus, rheumatoid arthritis, and other conditions, it is not recommended as it can be too powerful for an already over active immune system, and it could possibly increase the symptoms of the disorder.
Why do you need it?
People all over the world use elderberry syrup as a treatment for many things such as sinus pain, back and leg pain, hay fever, constipation, heart disease, high cholesterol, headache, and weight loss. There are not a lot of studies on the efficacy of elderberry because it is an herb. More research needs to be performed in order to truly understand all of its benefits, but testimonials from people who have used elderberry syrup to treat problems from headaches to gingivitis to cancer are hard to look past. Many people truly believe that Elderberry Syrup is beneficial in countless ways.
